HOLD THE FISH
When landing the fish throw a wet towel or rag over the fish. This will quieten the fish and make it easier to handle.
One hand is usually enough to hold the fish except for those really big ones that make for the best fishing stories.
You can remove the hook before or after using Kilafish
FIND THE BRAIN
Snapper should be held on their side, place the Kilafish on the fish’s head back from the eye and below the top of the head. Push the plunger firmly into the fish then find another spot and repeat – it’s easy.
For King Fish, Kawhai and other flat headed fish, use Kilafish on the top of the head.
IKI THAT FISH
Place the Kilafish on the fish’s head and press firmly down pushing the iki spike into the head. When properly ikied the fins will flare out for two seconds before the heart stops then the fish will relax and colour will return to the fish.
To iki a fish helps prolonging the onset of rigor mortis and stops blood entering the flesh.
The best fishing tool
“This is the best fishing tool I have in my tackle box. Kilafish is safe, humane and simple to use. It just works time and time again.”
